Manufacturing Process
Shandong Xingyuan Machinery applies different manufacturing processes based on the material, with precise control over quenching and tempering temperatures. This ensures the wheel achieves the required metallographic structure and mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment Methods
Three heat treatment methods are available according to different requirements:
1. Through Hardening & Tempering
Wheel surface hardness: HB 300–380
Mainly used for standard crane products
2. Surface Medium Frequency Quenching & Tempering
Wheel surface hardness: HB 300–380 or HRC 50–56
Mainly used for products requiring low wheel center hardness but high wheel surface hardness, where whole heat treatment is unsuitable
3. Through Hardening & Tempering (High Hardness)
Wheel surface hardness: Up to HRC 50–56
Hardness decreases with depth due to material differences
Forged alloy steel wheels have a hardened layer depth up to 15 mm with low hardness attenuation
Mainly used for port cranes, bucket‑wheel excavators, bucket‑wheel stacker reclaimers, and other heavy‑load products
Failure Modes & Selection Considerations
Flanged crane wheels are replaced due to:
Flange wear
Flange breakage
Mechanical overloads characterized by pitting and spalling
Each of these in‑service factors must be carefully considered before selecting the combination of wheel design, material, hardness pattern, and heat‑treating technology.
